With the Mandala A5 screen printing stencil from Rayher, you can print delicate mandala designs on fabric, wood, stretched canvas, paper, concrete, terracotta and other surfaces. According to Rayher, the fine, soft mesh is made of 100% polyester. The stencil is self-adhesive and reusable. A special gummed coating helps it stick to many surfaces. A squeegee is included, so you can get started straight away.

The thin mesh reproduces fine lines and small details cleanly. You do not apply the paint with a brush but pull it through the screen with the squeegee.

How to print the mandala

The surface must be smooth and free from dust and grease. Wash fabrics beforehand. With thin fabrics, place a protective sheet underneath so the paint does not bleed through.

• Place the stencil on the surface and press it down.
• Apply the paint in a broad line on the stencil above the design.
• Hold the stencil in place at the top with one hand and pull the paint downwards with the squeegee at a 45° angle until the whole design is covered.
• Immediately after printing, carefully peel the stencil off flat from the side so the outlines stay sharp.

Paint, cleaning and extra effect

Acrylic paint works well, for example fabric paint or Chalky Finish. Clean the stencil and squeegee with water straight after use, while the paint is still wet; this keeps the mesh clear and the stencil can be used again. On fabric, fix the paint after it has dried following the paint manufacturer's instructions. For special highlights, you can sprinkle fine glitter into the still-wet paint.
