Rayher Polystyrene Egg, 2-Part – to Paint, Cover, Felt and Fill

The 2-part polystyrene egg from Rayher is a craft base for Easter decorations, gift packaging and craft classes. The two halves push together, and the outer height is 160 mm. You can paint the egg, cover it or felt it.

Because the egg opens into two parts, it can also be filled, for example as a small surprise box or as packaging for a little gift. The sturdy shape holds up well even with more elaborate craft techniques.

Decorating the egg

Water-based paints such as acrylic or craft paint are suitable for painting. Solvent-based paints, spray varnishes and glues attack polystyrene and can dissolve it, so test on an inconspicuous spot first. Hot glue can also melt polystyrene; for decorative pieces, it is better to use a water-based craft glue. To felt the egg, use a felting needle to stab wool roving into the surface layer by layer until it holds firmly.

As a surprise egg or packaging

To fill it, separate the two halves, put small items inside and push the egg back together. If you want it to stay securely closed in transit, you can seal the seam with a thin line of glue or wrap a ribbon around it. It is best to decorate both halves separately first and join them only afterwards, so you can also reach the edge.
