Coloured twisted pipe cleaners – 10 chenille stems for crafting and shaping

Chenille stems, also known as pipe cleaners, consist of a bendable wire core with a soft, fluffy covering. You get 10 twisted stems in mixed colours, each approx. 50 cm long and Ø 9 mm thick. You can use them to make animals, figures, flowers and small decorations, at school, in nursery or for hobby crafting.

The 9 mm thickness makes the stems nicely plump. Twisted, they look three-dimensional and work well for bodies, legs, flower stems or antennae. As the wire can be bent by hand, you need no tools for simple shapes.

Working with chenille stems

For figures, bend the wire into a body, arms and legs and twist the ends together. This lets you join several pieces without glue. If a stem needs to be shorter, cut it with wire cutters or with scissors that are suitable for cutting wire. As there is wire inside the core, it is better not to cut with your good fabric scissors.

• Bend the wire ends inwards at the cut points so that nothing sticks out
• For spirals, wind the wire around a pencil or a paintbrush handle
• You can add eyes, googly eyes or pompoms with craft glue
