The pricking needle with plastic handle is a craft tool for paper pricking: you pierce small holes along a pre-drawn line, and rows of holes form shapes and motifs. The needle is approx. 13 cm long and the plastic handle is sturdy. It is supplied in assorted colours.
Pricking is often used in nurseries because it trains fine motor skills and concentration. Simple outlines work as well as more detailed figures if you make the holes evenly.
How to prick
Draw the motif on paper or card and place it on a soft surface, such as felt. Hold the needle upright on the line and press it evenly through the paper. The soft surface lets the point pierce cleanly and protects the table top. Space the holes closely and evenly, and the row of holes will look clear later. You can then carefully push the motif out or leave the row of holes as a pattern. The needle has a sharp point, so children should only prick under supervision.
