The da Vinci CASANEO WHITE set (art. no. 5391) consists of two watercolour brushes: a size 6 round brush and a size 8 flat brush. Da Vinci developed it together with Schmincke, and it is designed for Schmincke Horadam Aquarell SUPERGRANULATION watercolour paints. The set gives you both basic shapes for these paints.

Both brushes have white, wavy synthetic fibres, which are vegan according to da Vinci. The handles are black and hexagonal (Esagonalstiel), and the ferrules are seamless. The handles are short, and the brushes are made for watercolour paints on paper. The set is made in Germany.

Round or flat: which brush to use

The size 6 round brush comes to a point. You can use it to paint lines and smaller shapes, and with more pressure you can also make broader strokes. The size 8 flat brush, with its straight edge, lays down even washes and gradients and makes clean edges. Both brushes have the same fibre construction. You can switch between the shapes without the brush handling changing fundamentally.

Working with Supergranulation paints

Granulating pigments settle into the texture of the paper as they dry, creating the grainy effect. This takes a little time: apply the paint with a few strokes and do not brush back and forth, otherwise the pigments are spread again. Then leave the area lying flat to dry undisturbed. After painting, rinse the brushes in clean water, reshape them and leave them to dry lying flat.
