DEKA Series L Batik Dye 500 g – Powder Dye for Dyeing and Batik
DEKA Series L batik dye is a powder dye for textiles made from natural fibres. You can use it to dye T-shirts, tote bags or scarves in a single colour or in a tie-dye look. The large pack contains 500 g and is made in Germany. Choose your colour from the options.
According to DEKA, 10 g of dye powder will dye approx. 250 g of dry fabric when dyeing, or approx. 125 g when doing batik. With 500 g you can therefore dye a lot of items: in theory approx. 12.5 kg of fabric when dyeing, or half that for batik. The colours in the series can be mixed with one another, so you can create your own shades.
Dyeing step by step
Wash the fabric beforehand and remove any finish or fabric softener residue, otherwise it will take up the dye unevenly. Then proceed as follows:
- Dissolve 10 g of dye powder with 1 tablespoon of salt in boiling water.
- Add the damp fabric loosely. It should be fully covered by the dye bath and float freely.
- Dye for 30–60 minutes, stirring constantly. Dark shades need a concentrated dye bath and about 1 hour.
- Depending on the fabric, the dye bath can be up to 90 °C; for wax batik, dye at 40–50 °C for 15–30 minutes.
- The after-treatment agent no. 111/L improves water- and wash-fastness. Afterwards, hand wash at up to 30 °C with detergent for delicates, always washing dyed items separately.
Which fabrics are suitable?
It is best to dye white or light natural fibres such as cotton, linen, batiste and flax, as well as viscose and rayon. Synthetic fibres do not take the dye, and mixed fabrics only dye to a limited extent. Wool and silk are best dyed by hand, as they are not suitable for the washing machine.
