Faber-Castell Goldfaber Aqua – 12 water-soluble watercolour pencils in a metal tin
The Faber-Castell Goldfaber Aqua watercolour pencils in the 12-piece metal tin (art. no. 114612) are water-soluble coloured pencils for sketches, hatching and colour gradients. You can draw dry, as with ordinary coloured pencils, or turn your marks into watercolour effects with water and a brush. The lead has a diameter of 3.3 mm, is highly pigmented and, according to the manufacturer, goes on soft and rich in colour. The colours are very lightfast, so your pictures keep their brilliance even in daylight.
Thanks to Sekural bonding (SV), the lead is firmly bonded into the wood and is less likely to break. The pencils can be sharpened with all common sharpeners. The metal tin keeps the twelve colours together and protects them in a school bag or rucksack.
Working with watercolour pencils
Start by drawing dry, as you would with coloured pencils. Light pressure produces delicate areas of colour, while firmer pressure gives a stronger result. Then go over the lines with a damp brush: the colour dissolves and blends into soft transitions. Do not dip the pencils themselves in water. Watercolour paper or sturdy drawing paper copes better with moisture than thin copy paper. Begin with a little water, as wet paper cockles quickly and colour that has dissolved is hard to lighten again.
Which set suits you?
This set contains twelve assorted colours and is a compact basic set for school, hobby and first projects. If you prefer to work with soft, light colours, Goldfaber Aqua is also available as a separate 12-piece set in pastel shades. For a wider choice of colours, Faber-Castell also offers the series in sets with more pencils.
