Albrecht Dürer Watercolour Pencils, Tin of 24 – Water-Soluble Pencils in a Metal Tin

The Albrecht Dürer artists' watercolour pencils from Faber-Castell are water-soluble pencils for drawing, painting and watercolour work. The set contains 24 pencils in a metal tin, where you can keep them organised and take them with you.

According to Faber-Castell, just a few brush strokes are enough to blend the colour finely or across a larger area. Depending on the paper, it dissolves completely and then behaves like classic watercolour paint. According to the manufacturer, the pigments are very lightfast and brilliant in colour, and the strokes are soft and rich in colour.

Working with watercolour pencils

You can use the pencils dry like ordinary coloured pencils or carry on working with water. The lead is fully water-soluble.

• First draw the area or line dry. The more heavily you apply the colour, the more colour dissolves later.
• Go over the colour with a damp brush. With little water the stroke stays visible; with more water you get a soft wash.
• For gradients, place two colours side by side and blend the boundary with the brush.
• Use paper that can cope with moisture, for example watercolour paper. Thin drawing paper cockles easily.

Choosing a set

The 24 pencils give you a wide choice for mixing without needing the largest set. The series is also available with 12, 36, 60 and 120 pencils in a metal tin. According to Faber-Castell, the colours are also available individually and in other tin assortments, so you can replace a used-up shade without buying a new set.

Lead and durability

The 3.8 mm thick lead is firmly bonded to the barrel by SV bonding (Sekural). According to Faber-Castell, this makes it break-resistant if a pencil is dropped in the tin or during transport.
