Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel Pencil – wax- and oil-free pastel pencil for detail and blending
The Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel Pencil is an artists' colour pencil in pastel quality for fine outlines, details and studies. It contains neither wax nor oil and complements classic pastel chalk when you want to work more precisely than a chalk allows. The single pencils come in 60 colours. Choose your colour from the options.
The lead is 4.3 mm thick and gives a rich, strongly pigmented stroke. According to Faber-Castell, the pigments are lightfast. Because the pencil is free of grease, it blends well and you can mix colour gradients directly on the paper.
Working with the pastel pencil
Sharpen the pencil with a sharp knife. For outlines and details, draw with the point; for broad coverage, hold the pencil at a flatter angle. To blend, use your finger, a paper stump or a brush and draw the colour in the direction you want. Thanks to the grease-free lead, you can layer colours and let them merge softly into one another.
Fixing and choosing
Pitt Pastel Pencils are colour-stable with fixatives. According to Faber-Castell, fixing can be reduced to a minimum, so the colour brilliance is retained. For larger areas and soft backgrounds, keep using pastel chalk, and use the pencils for details and studies. The two can be combined in one piece of work.
