Royal Talens Amsterdam White Gesso – Primer for Acrylic and Oil Paints
Royal Talens Amsterdam white gesso is a water-dilutable primer for canvas, wood, card and paper. It gives a white painting ground to which acrylic and oil paints adhere well. Once dry, the layer is absorbent, so you can also work on it with oil paints.
The gesso can be diluted with water. Applied in several thin layers, it gives a smooth finish; in one thick layer, the painting ground has more texture. Choose your size from the options.
Priming
The surface must be free of dust and grease. Stir the gesso before use and dilute it with a little water if needed.
- Apply the gesso in thin layers and let each layer dry before applying the next.
- For more texture, apply a thicker layer, for example with coarse brush strokes.
- Work at 10 °C or above and store the gesso frost-free.
- Clean brushes and tools with water while the gesso is still wet.
White, black or transparent?
White gesso gives a light painting ground on which colours look clear. The range is also available in black for a matt, dark ground and in transparent, where the surface underneath remains visible. The Amsterdam gessos can be mixed with one another. You can also tint the gesso with acrylic paint, for example for a coloured painting ground.
