Schmincke HORADAM Deep Sea Supergranulation Watercolour Tin, 5 Paints + Brush

Schmincke HORADAM Deep Sea – watercolour tin with 5 supergranulating colours and travel brush

The Schmincke HORADAM watercolour tin "Deep Sea" is a watercolour set with five supergranulating colours in half pans and a da Vinci travel brush. The colours are matched to deep-sea, water and ocean subjects: Deep Sea Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green and Black.

Each colour combines at least 2 granulating HORADAM pigments. As the paint dries, the pigments settle differently into the texture of the paper, creating colour gradients and natural-looking textures. Besides the five pans, the tin has room for one more half pan, so you can add a colour of your own to the set.

Getting the best granulation

Granulating colours show their effect above all on paper with a rough surface and with plenty of water. Wet the colour in the pan well and apply it with lots of water, ideally wet in wet. Then leave the area to dry undisturbed: if you work into the damp paint, you destroy the texture that forms as it dries. For deep-sea subjects, you can let blue, indigo and green run into each other and place violet or black in the dark areas.

The travel brush

The da Vinci travel brush has golden-coloured synthetic fibres set in a silver-coloured ferrule. The black artificial horn handle is in two parts, which you screw together. This protects the brush in transit and it fits in the tin for painting on the move. Rinse it after painting and leave it to dry lying flat before putting it away.
