Caran d'Ache 849 COLORMAT-X Mechanical Pencil, 0.7 mm, Red

Caran d'Ache 849 COLORMAT-X – 0.7 mm mechanical pencil

The 849 COLORMAT-X mechanical pencil from Caran d'Ache has the hexagonal aluminium barrel of the well-known 849 line. It writes with 0.7 mm HB leads, for notes, sketches and everyday writing. At the end there is an eraser, so you can correct small mistakes straight away.

With the flexible clip, you can attach it to a notebook, folder or shirt pocket. The barrel has a satin finish, and the clip and push button are made of metal. This version is red; the COLORMAT-X range is also available in other colours such as blue, green, yellow, orange, pink, turquoise and violet.

Refilling the leads

Under the push button you will find the eraser and the lead supply. Pull off the button, take out the eraser and slide new 0.7 mm leads into the barrel. If you prefer to write with a softer or harder lead, you can load other 0.7 mm leads instead of HB.

Who is 0.7 mm suited to?

A 0.7 mm lead breaks less often than a 0.5 mm lead and gives a slightly bolder line. It suits writing and loose sketches. For very fine technical lines, you are better off with a mechanical pencil with a thinner lead.
