Madeira Avalon Plus – water-soluble embroidery stabiliser

Avalon Plus from Madeira (art. no. 9442) is a sturdy, water-soluble embroidery stabiliser weighing 40 g/m². It supports your fabric during machine embroidery and then dissolves in water. That means there is nothing to tear away that could damage the fabric, which matters most with fine, sheer materials such as silk, organza or tulle.

Madeira lists the following uses, among others: free-motion embroidery, designs with a high stitch count, lace embroidery, monograms, edgings, darning, paper piecing, quilting, textile collages, needle painting and 3D effects.

How to use the stabiliser

Hoop the stabiliser together with your fabric. After embroidering, roughly trim away the excess stabiliser. Then, according to Madeira, place your work in cold or warm water and wash the stabiliser out.

Avalon Plus or another Avalon type?

In Madeira's Avalon range, Avalon Plus is the sturdy stabiliser for light, delicate fabrics. Avalon Film is a fine embroidery film, suitable for terry and knitted fabrics, among others. Avalon Ultra is an extra strong film for large embroideries worked without a hoop, and Avalon Fix is a self-adhesive stabiliser.
