Prym Tapestry Needles No. 22 – gentle on wool and chunky yarns
You can use the Prym tapestry needles No. 22 (art. no. 125557) for coarse embroidery and for sewing in wool ends. The tip is rounded: it does not pierce the fibres but pushes them aside. This protects both yarn and fabric. The large, burr-free eye makes it easier to thread wool and thicker yarns.
The needles are 40 mm long and 0.90 mm thick, made of hardened steel. There are 6 on the card.
Using blunt-tip tapestry needles
The blunt tip slides between threads and stitches instead of splitting them. This suits embroidery with thicker yarns on loosely woven fabrics, where you insert the needle into existing openings. To sew in wool ends, pass the needle through the stitches on the wrong side of the knitting and pull the yarn through.
- Pull the thread through the large eye
- Insert the needle between the threads or stitches
- Pull the thread through evenly, without bunching the fabric
Which needle number to choose?
The higher the number, the finer the needle. No. 22 with a thickness of 0.90 mm is the finer version for chunky yarns. Thick wool should still pass comfortably through the eye; otherwise, choose a needle with a lower number.
