Prym revolving punch pliers – 6 hole sizes from 2.5 to 5.0 mm

With the Prym revolving punch pliers (art. no. 390905) you can punch round holes in leather, fabric and craft materials such as card. Typical uses include extra holes in belts and straps, or pre-punching for eyelets and rivets. The rotating head lets you choose between six hole sizes from 2.5 to 5.0 mm. The grip recesses on the outer sides give a secure hold, and a locking catch keeps the pliers closed when not in use.

Using the punch pliers

First mark the hole position with chalk or a pen. Then turn the revolving head until the punch tube you want sits over the opposite side. Position the pliers at a right angle to the material and squeeze the handles together evenly. With firm leather, it helps to move the pliers slightly back and forth as you squeeze until the tube has gone all the way through. The hole size you need for eyelets, rivets or press studs is usually given in their instructions. If in doubt, try the size on an offcut before punching the actual piece.

Avoiding common mistakes

Frayed or crooked holes often result from positioning the pliers at an angle or from material that is too thick for the pliers. It is better to punch several layers one at a time. Punched-out scraps can get stuck in the tube – remove them before you carry on, otherwise the next hole will be untidy. Also avoid working too close to the edge, so that the material around the hole does not tear out.
