Using the cutter

Roll out the dough to an even thickness and lightly dust the work surface and cutter with flour, or with cornflour for fondant. Press the cutter down straight and with even pressure, without twisting it, so that the outline and embossing come out cleanly. If the dough sticks in the cutter, chilling the rolled-out dough briefly in the fridge helps. The thin wing tips come away more easily if you lift the shape carefully with the back of a knife or a spatula.

With salt dough, modelling clay or Fimo, you proceed in the same way and continue working the material according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you use the cutter for craft materials like these, it is better to use a separate cutter for food.
