Oval birch plywood basket base – drilled starting point for baskets

This oval basket base measures 210 × 290 mm and is the foundation for baskets you weave yourself. It is made of laser-cut birch plywood, approx. 3.0 mm thick, with 37 pre-drilled holes of approx. Ø 3.3 mm. There is no need to mark and drill the holes yourself, so you can start weaving straight away.

The holes are intended for the stakes, the upright rods that form the framework of the basket wall. The base is suitable for basket weaving, decorative projects and other DIY work.

Weaving

Each of the 37 holes takes one stake, so the number of holes determines how many stakes your basket has. Choose stakes that fit the approx. Ø 3.3 mm holes with little play, such as rods or centre cane of around 3 mm in diameter. Sharpen the ends slightly to make them easier to insert. Insert all the stakes, then weave upwards round by round.

Choosing the size

At 210 × 290 mm, this base suits smaller oval baskets, for example for bread, utensils or decorations. If you need more surface area, the same range includes a larger oval base measuring 280 × 350 mm with 55 holes.
