Oval Basket Base 280 × 350 mm – Drilled Base for Large Baskets

This oval basket base measures 280 × 350 mm and is the starting point for baskets where you don't want to drill the holes for the stakes yourself. It is made of laser-cut birch plywood, is approx. 3.0 mm thick and has 55 drilled holes for the stakes.

The holes have a diameter of approx. 3.3 mm. Simply push the stakes in and you can start weaving the sides straight away. At 28 × 35 cm, the base suits larger baskets, for example for storage or as a decorative basket.

Weaving

Insert a stake into each hole and make sure they all stand up to the same height. The stakes should fit into the holes with a little play so that they don't jam. With 55 holes you have an odd number of stakes. This is handy if you weave the sides with a single weaver in plain weaving, going over and under the stakes alternately. Bend the stakes up carefully before you begin the first row.

Choosing the size

At 280 × 350 mm, this base is larger than the smaller oval basket bases in the range, such as the 210 × 290 mm version. The finished basket will be at least as large as the base. Allow for stakes and weaving material for the larger wall area.
