Flat-oval cane, 8 mm wide – natural material for weaving baskets

This cane is a natural material for weaving baskets and other basketry. It is 8 mm wide, flat on the underside and oval on the top. The pack contains 500 g, so you have material in stock for several weaving projects.

The cane is not suitable for seat weaving, for example on chairs. It is suitable for baskets, bowls and other woven items.

Working with the cane

Soak the cane in warm water before weaving. This makes it more flexible and easier to bend, and it is less likely to break. It is best to work with the material while it is still damp and to weave it tightly, as natural material can shrink slightly as it dries. During weaving, you can place the flat side facing inwards or outwards, depending on the look you prefer.

Dyeing and choosing the width

If you would like to dye the cane, you can soak it in black tea, for example, to colour it naturally. As for width, the narrower the cane, the finer the weave. Besides 8 mm, the range also includes cane in 5 mm and 10 mm widths.
