Round poplar plywood basket base with 45 holes for hand-woven baskets

This round basket base in laser-cut poplar plywood is the base plate for the basket you weave yourself. It has a diameter of 260 mm and is approx. 3 mm thick. The 45 pre-drilled holes, approx. Ø 3.3 mm, take the stakes you need for the basket wall. That saves you drilling and cutting out the base.

The holes are evenly spaced. This keeps the stakes in a neat circle, so the wall grows evenly upwards. The base is suitable for baskets, decorative bowls and other basket weaving projects.

Getting started

Insert a stake into each hole, making sure it goes in without force, as the hole is only approx. Ø 3.3 mm. Bend the stakes upwards and weave over and under in turn. Since the base has 45 holes, the number of stakes is odd. This means plain over-and-under weaving in the round works without an extra stake, and the rows offset themselves.
