Rectangular basketry base 20 × 30 cm – drilled base for baskets you weave yourself

The rectangular basketry base is the base plate for baskets that you weave yourself. It is made of laser-cut birch plywood and measures 20 × 30 cm, with a material thickness of approx. 3.0 mm. The drilled holes have a diameter of approx. 3.3 mm. You simply push the stakes into the holes, so there is no need to cut and drill a base yourself.

The rectangular shape suits bread baskets, storage baskets or small trays. You can use the base for beginner projects and for baskets with your own pattern.

Getting started with the basket base

Choose stakes that are slightly thinner than the approx. 3.3 mm holes. They then go in without force and still sit firmly. Push one stake into each hole, bend it upwards and weave the first rows tightly around the stakes so that the shape stays even. The first rows determine how straight the basket will stand later, so it is worth working slowly here. Weaving material such as centre cane is usually soaked before use so that it bends more easily.

Choosing the size

At 20 × 30 cm, this base is intended for small to medium baskets. For larger baskets, the same basketry base is also available in the 300 × 500 mm size.
