Oval basket base in birch plywood – pre-drilled for stakes

This oval basket base in birch plywood is the starting point for hand-woven baskets. It measures 21 × 29 cm and is approx. 3.0 mm thick. The holes for the stakes are already drilled and have a diameter of approx. 3.3 mm. So there is nothing to drill, and you can start weaving straight away.

The shape is laser-cut. The base suits small to medium oval baskets for storage or decoration, for beginners as well as experienced basket weavers. A larger oval version is available in the series if you are planning a bigger basket.

Building the basket

Choose stakes that slot easily into the holes of approx. 3.3 mm and sit firmly there. Push them into the holes, then weave row by row around the stakes. Soak centre cane in water beforehand so that it bends without breaking. You can cover the edge of the base with the weaving at the end.
