BeaverCraft C3 – small sloyd carving knife with a short blade for spoons and details
The BeaverCraft C3 is a small sloyd carving knife for carving wood, for example spoons and detail work in hollowed shapes. The blade is 40 mm long and 13 mm wide. With the short blade you can guide the knife very precisely, even in tight curves and small recesses. The knife is suitable for left- and right-handed users.
The blade is made of 1066 carbon steel at 57–59 HRC. Steel of this hardness keeps its edge for a long time. The ash handle is 120 mm long, treated with linseed oil, and leaves room even for larger hands.
Working with the small sloyd knife
Clamp the workpiece firmly or hold it securely, and always cut so that the blade does not travel towards your holding hand or your body. The short blade lets you make small, controlled cuts. This suits spoon bowls, hollows and fine contours where a long knife would get in the way. For roughly removing large amounts of wood, you are better off using a larger knife or an axe and keeping the C3 for finishing work. The knife suits beginners as well as experienced carvers.
Caring for the carbon steel blade
Carbon steel is not rustproof. Wipe the blade dry after carving and do not store the knife while damp. A few drops of oil on the blade will protect it from rust from time to time. The oiled ash handle should also be stored dry.
