Raysin 250 Black – black casting powder for large castings
Raysin 250 Black from Rayher is a black casting powder made from natural calcium sulphate and black pigment. You can use it to cast decorative items such as pendants, candle holders, bowls and plates. Thanks to its high strength of 250 N/mm², the powder is also suitable for large and very large castings. The 4 kg bag is the right size if you are casting several pieces or filling larger moulds.
The powder is air-hardening, easy to work with, odourless and flows well into the mould. According to Rayher, the castings have a deep black look and a velvety feel. According to Rayher, Raysin 250 is also suitable for casting with children.
Mixing and casting
Raysin 250 is mixed with less water than Raysin 100 and 200, so do not use the ratios for those types.
- Powder and water should be at 18 to 25 °C. Cold powder or cold water lengthens the working and setting time.
- Mix 1 part water with 4 parts Raysin 250.
- Stir the black powder very thoroughly so that the pigment is distributed evenly. Because of the high pigmentation, it reacts differently when mixed than white powder.
- Pour the mixture into the mould. You can demould after approx. 60 minutes, depending on the mould.
- The piece is completely dry after a few days, depending on the size of the casting.
Moulds and choosing
The casting powder is suitable for moulds made of plastic (PET, LDPE etc.), latex, silicone and rubber. You can combine it with the white Raysin 100 and 200. For smaller quantities and individual pieces, Raysin 250 Black is also available in a 1 kg bag. After casting, close the bag again so that the remaining powder is stored properly.
