Botz 9107 Weiß matt liquid glaze – opaque matt glaze for earthenware

Botz liquid glaze 9107 Weiß matt is a ready-to-use, opaque glaze in pure white for earthenware. It fires to a matt, velvety surface that reduces light reflections, so shapes and textures stand out clearly. As a neutral base it suits bowls, vases and decorative pieces, and can be combined with coloured accents or glossy glazes.

The glaze is a solid colour and opaque. You do not need to mix it: a thorough stir is enough, then you can brush, dip or pour it.

Applying and firing the glaze

Stir the glaze thoroughly before use, as solids settle at the bottom. Apply it to dust-free and grease-free bisque-fired ware. According to Botz, you should allow about one day of drying time before firing.

• Apply 2–3 even coats with a brush, or alternatively dip or pour
• Let each coat dry well before applying the next
• Firing range: 1020–1060 °C, up to 1100 °C
• For an even matt finish, allow a hold time of 10–20 minutes at approx. 1050 °C

Design tips

Because the glaze is opaque, it covers the colour of the clay, so you get an even white even on a red clay body. Applying it too thinly is the most common reason for patches where the clay body shows through. So apply each coat evenly and make a test tile from your own clay first. If you want an interplay of matt and gloss, combine 9107 with glossy glazes, for example as decoration on part of the piece. 9107 can be mixed with other opaque matt glazes to test your own shades of white.
