Botz 9562 Aubergine Liquid Glaze – glossy dark purple for earthenware
Botz 9562 Aubergine liquid glaze is a ready-to-use, glossy glaze for earthenware in an unusually dark purple. You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. According to Botz, you can fire it up to 1100 °C and use it for dinnerware.
The glaze is opaque, so the colour you see comes mainly from the glaze itself rather than from the colour of your clay body. Aubergine belongs to the Botz range of liquid glazes for earthenware, which is available in many other shades.
Application
The glaze is liquid and ready to use. Because the colour particles settle in the container, stir it thoroughly before each application. If it is too thick, thin it with a little water as needed.
- The ceramics must be bisque-fired to at least 950 °C.
- Apply evenly with a brush and leave to dry well.
- If needed, apply a further coat, but only once the previous one is completely dry.
- Leave the foot ring free of glaze so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf during firing.
Firing and use on dinnerware
Aubergine is intended for the earthenware firing range of 1020 to 1100 °C and, according to Botz, can be fired up to 1100 °C. Its glossy surface makes the glaze a good choice for cups, plates and bowls, as according to Botz it is suitable for dinnerware. A test piece on your own clay body will show you beforehand how the purple looks at your application thickness.
