Botz 9450 Transpünktchen Liquid Glaze – Clear and Glossy with Fine Black Speckles
Botz liquid glaze 9450 Transpünktchen is a clear, glossy effect glaze with fine black speckles for bisque-fired ceramics. You apply it with a brush and fire it in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. It can be fired up to 1100 °C.
As the glaze is clear, the surface underneath stays visible. Over engobes it shows off the colour and adds the dark speckles. You can also mix it: Botz gives 70% glaze and 30% engobe for this. The best way to see how strongly the speckles and the base colour come through is to make a test piece from your own clay with your engobe.
Applying the glaze
The glaze is a ready-to-use liquid glaze in an 800 ml container and is brushed onto bisque-fired ceramics.
- Stir the glaze well before use so that the components are evenly distributed
- Thin with a little water if required
- Apply with a brush to ceramics that have been bisque-fired at 950 °C or above
- Leave to dry thoroughly and repeat the application if required
- Fire in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C; the glaze can be fired up to 1100 °C
Which glaze suits your project?
Transpünktchen is clear, so the colour depends on what is underneath: on a pale clay body or pale engobe the black speckles stand out clearly, while on coloured engobes their shade remains visible. If you would like more subtle speckles, try the mixture of 70% glaze and 30% engobe. The Botz liquid glazes are available in other colours, such as Sonnengelb or Himmelblau. These are coloured, whereas you use Transpünktchen for speckled effects. When glazing, leave the foot of the piece unglazed and stand it on a kiln shelf so that nothing sticks.
