Botz Kiln Wash for Kiln Shelves – Protective Coating Against Dripping Glaze
Botz kiln wash protects the shelves in your kiln from dripping glaze. You brush it onto the kiln shelf as a protective coating. It absorbs any glaze drips that run off, without damaging the shelf. The kiln wash is liquid, ready to use after a short stir and also suitable for stoneware temperatures.
The tin contains 800 ml. This is enough to coat several shelves, and you can touch up the coating again and again later on.
How to apply the kiln wash
The kiln wash only needs to be stirred before use. The kiln shelf should be clean and dry.
- Stir well and brush onto the surface of the shelf
- Apply 2–3 coats and let each coat dry thoroughly before the next
- Fire it on during the first bisque firing, using a gentle heating curve from approx. 900 °C
- The shelf is then ready to use as a base for glazed pieces
Repairing and renewing
If the shelf is soiled after firing, carefully lift off any fired-on glaze drips with a palette knife and brush fresh kiln wash over the area. If the coating is badly worn, remove the old layer completely and recoat the shelf. The kiln shelf and brush are not included.
