Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-095 Pinkie Swear – ceramic glaze for brushstrokes and opaque coverage
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-095 Pinkie Swear is a highly pigmented, thick ceramic glaze in pink. You apply it with a brush to wet clay, bisque and stoneware, either as a brushstroke or as an opaque area of colour. The squeeze bottle contains 236 ml (8 fl oz).
The thick consistency helps you achieve clean lines and multicoloured designs. The colours in the Stroke & Coat range can be mixed with one another. The glaze fires glossy and needs no clear glaze to do so.
Application and coverage
The number of coats determines the result: according to Mayco, one coat gives a translucent result, and for full coverage Mayco recommends 2–3 coats. Let each coat dry before applying the next. The glaze barely runs, so you can place outlines and areas right next to each other. Leave the foot free of glaze so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf during firing.
- 1 coat: translucent
- 2–3 coats: opaque
- Fires glossy, without additional clear glaze
Firing and colour behaviour
Stroke & Coat is normally fired at cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 05 (approx. 1,031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). Mayco gives the full range as cone 06 to cone 10 (approx. 1,285 °C, guide value per Orton chart), oxidising or reducing. At high temperatures Pinkie Swear behaves differently: at cone 6 (approx. 1,222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) the glaze is transparent according to Mayco and the colour lightens considerably. Make a test piece on your own clay body before firing a larger piece.
Dinnerware and seals
According to Mayco, Stroke & Coat is dinnerware safe. The ACMI AP (Approved Product) seal means, according to ACMI: exempt from hazard labelling.
