Mayco Stroke & Coat SP-270 Speckled Pink-A-Dot – pale pink glaze with blue speckles
Mayco Stroke & Coat Wonderglaze SP-270 Speckled Pink-A-Dot is a brush-on glaze in soft pink with blue speckles. You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired earthenware or stoneware. It comes in a 236 ml container and fires glossy. If the piece is fully glazed, you do not need an additional clear glaze.
According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. According to ACMI, the AP (Approved Product) seal means: exempt from hazard labelling.
Application and coverage
One coat gives a translucent colour; with two or more coats it becomes opaque. Pink-A-Dot is more translucent than the other Speckled colours, so full coverage may even need a fourth coat. Let each coat dry before applying the next. The glaze suits bisque-fired earthenware or stoneware. It can also be used on clay; in that case leave an area unglazed so gases can escape. Mayco recommends a test piece beforehand.
Firing and colour effect
The glaze is formulated for cone 06/05. This corresponds to cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) and cone 05 (approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). Higher temperatures are possible, but the colours then become paler. At cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) and in an oxidation atmosphere, Mayco describes the glaze as semi-transparent: the colour lightens slightly and the speckles bleed. If you want the speckles to stay as dots, fire within the recommended range.
