Botz liquid glaze 9536 Cumulus is a satin effect glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It shows intense blue flecks that form floral patterns on a champagne-coloured base. You apply it with a brush and fire it in the range of 1020–1060 °C. It is suited to decorative ceramic work and accents where the surface itself provides the pattern.

The flowing flecks develop during firing, as the blue components in the glaze run and spread. You can therefore only control to a limited extent how the pattern looks in the end. Every piece turns out a little different. A test piece on your own clay body shows you beforehand how Cumulus turns out for you.

Applying Cumulus

Cumulus is a liquid glaze and ready to use. Apply it to bisque-fired ceramics.

• Stir the glaze well before use
• Dilute with a little water if needed
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush
• Leave to dry well, repeat the application if needed

Firing and effect

Cumulus is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C and is therefore one of the earthenware glazes. The pieces should have been bisque-fired at 950 °C or above. Effect glazes with flowing flecks may run a little during firing. So do not apply it too thickly, leave the foot of the piece unglazed and, if needed, stand the piece on a kiln shelf that you have protected against glaze drips. An even application helps the flecks to spread out rather than collect in one place.
