Botz Liquid Glaze 9376 Apfelgrün – glossy, opaque light green for earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9376 Apfelgrün is a ready-to-use, glossy glaze in a fresh light green for bisque-fired earthenware. It is opaque and, according to Botz, also gives good results on coloured clays.
The firing range is 1020–1060 °C. The glaze can be fired up to 1100 °C, melts out very well and does not tend to run even at 1100 °C. At the right thickness, edges and relief detail therefore stay clean.
Application
Stir the glaze well before use, as the pigments settle at the bottom. If needed, thin it with a little water. Apply it to the bisque-fired ceramic with a brush and let each coat dry thoroughly. If necessary, repeat the application. Applying too thickly is the most common cause of uneven surfaces and run marks. Several thin coats are safer than one thick one. Leave the foot ring free of glaze so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf.
Firing and colour
Fire within the range of 1020–1060 °C, in which the glaze is stable according to Botz. Firing up to 1100 °C is possible. Because the glaze is opaque, it largely determines the colour itself. Even so, a test piece made from your own clay is worthwhile if you are using a dark clay body.
Choosing within the series
Botz liquid glazes are available in other colours with the same firing range. Apfelgrün is the lightest, freshest green with a yellowish tint. If you are looking for a softer green, take a look at 9372 Schilfgrün. For a strong blue-green, 9373 Jadegrün is a good match.
