Botz 9486 Kürbisorange liquid glaze – opaque, glossy orange for earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9486 Kürbisorange is a glossy, opaque glaze in light orange for bisque-fired ceramics. It is designed for a firing range of 1020–1060 °C and is also suitable for raku. Because it is opaque, the clay body barely shows through, and according to Botz it also gives good results on coloured clays.
The glaze melts out very well. Even at 1100 °C it does not run, so you have a little room to go higher when firing. The shade is a light orange with no gradient or textured effect, which suits mugs, bowls, decorative pieces or figures where the colour surface should stand out.
Application
The glaze is applied with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C or above.
- Stir the glaze well, as pigments and glaze components settle
- Thin with a little water if needed
- Apply to the bisque-fired piece with a brush and leave to dry thoroughly
- Apply a further coat if needed
Firing and result
Within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C the glaze is stable and gives a glossy, opaque finish. If your kiln runs a little hotter, up to approx. 1100 °C, the glaze does not run according to Botz. It is still worth leaving the foot free of glaze and protecting the kiln shelf. A test piece made from your own clay will show you beforehand how the orange looks on your clay body, especially if you are using a coloured clay. If you would like a matt surface, choose one of the matt glazes from the Botz range.
