Botz 9879 Hellblaueffekt stoneware glaze – glossy sky-blue effect glaze

Hellblaueffekt (9879) is a liquid, glossy stoneware effect glaze from Botz in sky blue for the firing range 1220–1280 °C. It forms pale effects and speckles in the blue, which you can influence through the application and the firing temperature.

Stoneware fired at high temperatures becomes vitrified and frost-proof, and no longer absorbs water. The glaze is opaque, and the container size is 200 ml.

How the glaze looks at different temperatures

The colour depends strongly on the firing temperature. A test piece made from your own clay shows you in advance how the result will turn out for you.

• 1220 °C: greyish blue with small pale effects
• 1250 °C: bright light blue with white effects
• 1280 °C: an even paler blue due to stronger effect formation

Application and firing

Stir the glaze well and apply it with a brush in two to three coats, preferably three. Let each coat dry thoroughly. If you deliberately apply the glaze unevenly, attractive pale running effects appear. Because the glaze can run, leave the foot of the piece unglazed and protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash. The recommended firing temperature is 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold.
