Botz Liquid Glaze 9379 Kanarigelb – warm, opaque yellow for earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9379 Kanarigelb is a glossy, opaque glaze in warm yellow for bisque-fired ceramics in the earthenware range. It is ready to use and applied with a brush. The glaze melts out very well and, according to Botz, does not tend to run even at 1100 °C. You can fire it up to 1100 °C; it is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C.
Because Kanarigelb is opaque, it also works on coloured clays and gives good results. Yellow as a glaze colour depends heavily on even application: where the layer is thinner, the surface looks lighter. Kanarigelb belongs to the Botz liquid glaze series, which is available in other colours.
Applying Kanarigelb
The glaze is ready to use, but you can thin it with a little water if needed. Apply it to ceramics that have already been bisque-fired.
- Stir the glaze well, as the colour pigments settle at the bottom of the tin.
- Apply evenly with a brush to the bisque-fired ceramic (at least 950 °C).
- Leave to dry thoroughly and repeat the application if needed.
- Leave the base of the piece unglazed so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf.
Firing and temperature
Botz gives a stable firing range of 1020–1060 °C for the series. The glaze can be fired up to 1100 °C. If you work with raku: Kanarigelb is suitable for it. When using a new clay or a new firing schedule, make a test piece first so you can see how the yellow turns out for you.
When is Kanarigelb the right choice?
If you want an opaque, glossy yellow surface, even on a coloured clay body, this glaze is the right choice. For a translucent effect that lets the colour of the clay show through, you need a clear glaze. You can combine several colours of the series in the same firing, as they share the same firing range.
