Botz 9370 Babyblau Liquid Glaze – soft, opaque blue with a glossy finish

Botz 9370 Babyblau is a ready-to-use earthenware glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It gives a soft, opaque baby blue with a glossy surface. Because the glaze is opaque, the colour also looks good on coloured clays, and the clay colour barely shows through.

The firing range is 1020–1060 °C, and the glaze can be fired up to 1100 °C. It melts out well and, according to Botz, does not tend to run even at 1100 °C. That gives you a comfortable margin when firing. 9370 belongs to the Botz liquid glaze series, which comes in ten colours.

Application

The glaze is ready to use straight from the pot and is applied to bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C or above.

• Stir the glaze well and, if needed, thin it with a little water.
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush.
• Leave to dry thoroughly and, if needed, apply another coat.
• Fire in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C; firing up to 1100 °C is possible.

Firing tips

Apply the coats evenly so that the colour is opaque and free of streaks. Thick areas can look less even after firing than thin ones. Leave the foot of the piece unglazed and protect the kiln shelf if you are glazing close to the base. A test piece on your own clay will show you in advance how the baby blue turns out.
