Botz 9104 Cognac liquid glaze – honey brown, glossy and semi-transparent

Botz 9104 Cognac liquid glaze is a ready-to-use glaze for earthenware. It coats ceramics in a warm honey-brown shade with a glossy, semi-transparent finish. As it is not opaque, the textures and shapes of your piece remain visible.

The colour effect depends on the clay: on light clay Cognac looks soft and warm, while on red or black clay the shade becomes darker, richer and higher in contrast. A test tile on your own clay will show you beforehand how the glaze looks in your case.

Application and firing

Stir the glaze thoroughly before use. Apply it to bisque-fired ware; the clay body should be free of dust and grease.

• Apply 2–3 even coats with a brush, or dip or pour the piece
• Let each coat dry well before applying the next
• Firing range: 1020–1060 °C, firing up to 1100 °C is possible
• Allow a hold time of 10–20 minutes at approx. 1050 °C
• Keep the kiln shelf and the foot of the piece free of glaze, or protect them with kiln wash

Combining and decorating

As a base glaze, Cognac can be combined with light glazes, which may produce colour gradients and drip effects. Small accents in blue, green or cream set off the brown. The glaze suits bowls and decorative pieces where you want a warm, natural look.
