Botz 9373 Jadegrün liquid glaze – opaque blue-green for earthenware

Botz 9373 Jadegrün liquid glaze is a ready-to-use earthenware glaze in a deep, opaque blue-green with a glossy finish. You brush it onto bisque-fired ceramics and fire it within the range of 1020–1060 °C.

The glaze is opaque, so the colour shows well even on coloured clays. According to Botz, it melts out very well and does not tend to run even at 1100 °C. This makes it easy to predict even when firing at the upper end of the range.

Applying the glaze

The glaze is ready to use straight from the pot. The surface must be bisque-fired, and the bisque firing should have reached at least 950 °C.

• Wipe the dust off the bisque ware with a damp sponge
• Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
• Brush onto the bisque-fired ceramics
• Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed

Firing and result

Within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C, Jadegrün is stable according to Botz, and it can be fired up to 1100 °C. Because the glaze is opaque, the colour of the clay matters less than with translucent glazes. A test piece is the quickest way to see how the green looks on your clay and in your kiln before you glaze a larger piece.
