Botz 9101 Weiß liquid glaze – opaque and glossy white

Botz 9101 Weiß is an opaque, glossy white glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It comes as a liquid glaze in an 800 ml container and is applied with a brush. The glaze also covers black clay, so the colour of the clay does not show through.

The glaze is intended for earthenware and is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. It can be fired up to 1100 °C. According to Botz, it is also well suited to majolica and goes with Botz Unidekor: you can paint decorations onto the white surface to add patterns and motifs.

Application

The glaze is applied to ceramics that have previously been bisque-fired at a minimum of 950 °C. The application is most even if you follow the steps in this order:

• Stir the glaze well, as the pigments settle at the bottom
• Thin with a little water if needed
• Apply to the bisque-fired piece with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
• Keep the base free of glaze so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf during firing

Firing and choosing a glaze

Fire the glaze within the recommended range of 1020–1060 °C, where it is stable. According to the manufacturer, it can also be fired up to 1100 °C. Because it is opaque, you do not need a light clay as a base. If you want the colour of the clay or an incised drawing to stay visible, choose the transparent Botz liquid glaze 9102 instead of the white glaze. For majolica, paint the white surface with Botz Unidekor.
