Botz 9590 Mauritius Liquid Glaze – Matt, Intense Mediterranean Blue for Earthenware

Botz 9590 Mauritius liquid glaze is a ready-to-use glaze for earthenware in an intense Mediterranean blue. You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. Fired at up to 1040 °C, the surface turns matt.

Mauritius can only be fired up to 1040 °C. At higher temperatures the glaze is less colour-stable and becomes satin, and the blue may turn out differently. Some other Botz liquid glazes are specified for higher temperatures. If you fire several glazes together, set the kiln temperature according to Mauritius.

Applying Mauritius

The glaze is ready to use straight from the pot. Several thin coats usually give a more even result than one thick coat, which tends to cause brush marks and runs.

• Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
• Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at 950 °C minimum)
• Let each coat dry thoroughly
• Apply another coat if needed

Firing and colour effect

For the matt finish and the intense blue, fire to a maximum of 1040 °C. Higher temperatures are an experiment: the colour is then less stable and the surface satin. If you want to see the effect before glazing a whole piece, make a test piece on your own clay body first.
