Botz stoneware glaze 9880 Pazifik – glossy effect glaze from sea green to light blue

Botz stoneware glaze 9880 Pazifik is a liquid, glossy effect glaze for stoneware in the firing range 1220–1280 °C. It gives a cloudy play of colour from sea green to a strong light blue. The high firing temperature makes the stoneware frost-resistant and vitrified, so it does not absorb water.

You control how strongly green or blue comes through with the thickness of the layer: applied thinner, Pazifik looks greener, and the thicker you apply it, the stronger the blue becomes. If you apply the glaze unevenly, very attractive blue running effects appear. The glaze is opaque and has a textured, slightly speckled look.

Applying Pazifik

Stir the glaze well and apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush. Let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. Three coats usually make sense; if you fire at 1280 °C, apply only two coats on the lower part of the piece. For a more even result, keep the layer thickness consistent; for lively blue runs, you can vary it deliberately. As the glaze can run, leave the foot unglazed and protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash.

Firing and colour effect

The glaze is stable across the whole firing range. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how colour and running turn out with your kiln and your layer thickness.
