Botz stoneware glaze 9877 Schwarz glänzend – liquid glaze for 1220–1280 °C

Botz stoneware glaze 9877 Schwarz glänzend is an opaque liquid glaze for stoneware with a glossy finish. You apply it with a brush and fire it within a firing range of 1220 to 1280 °C. The bottle contains 800 ml.

You can choose the firing temperature within this range. Botz recommends 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold. At 1280 °C the result changes: in that case, apply only two coats on the lower part of the piece.

Applying the glaze

Stir the glaze well before use so that any settled particles are brought back into suspension. Then apply two to three coats with a brush, letting each coat dry thoroughly. Three coats usually work well. If you fire at 1280 °C, apply only two coats on the lower part of the piece.

Firing and choosing a colour

A test piece shows you beforehand how coat thickness and temperature affect your result. Leave the foot of the piece unglazed and protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash so that nothing sticks if the glaze runs slightly. Botz stoneware glazes are available in other colours.
