Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-078 Lime Light – gloss glaze for clay, bisque and stoneware
Stroke & Coat SC-078 Lime Light is a ceramic glaze from Mayco for painting and glazing wet clay, bisque and stoneware. It fires glossy, even without an additional clear glaze. The jar contains 236 ml.
One coat gives a translucent finish, and opacity increases with further coats. Mayco recommends 2–3 coats for full coverage. Stroke & Coat is available in other colours, which can be mixed with one another.
Applying the glaze
Stir the glaze well before use and brush it on evenly with a soft brush. Let each coat dry before applying the next. For transparent effects and soft gradients, thin the glaze with water or medium. As all Stroke & Coat colours can be intermixed, you can also vary the shade with other colours from the range.
- 1 coat: translucent
- 2–3 coats: opaque
- On pieces that stand on the kiln shelf, leave the foot ring free of glaze
Firing: firing range and behaviour at cone 6
Mayco formulates Stroke & Coat for cone 06/05 (approx. 998 °C and approx. 1031 °C respectively, guide value per Orton chart). It can be fired up to cone 10 (approx. 1285 °C, guide value per Orton chart), in oxidation or reduction. At cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart), Lime Light is semi-transparent and becomes slightly lighter. The behaviour at cone 6 is also given on the label. At mid or high fire, fine designs may run. A test tile on your own clay will show you beforehand how the colour looks in your kiln.
Dinnerware
Mayco labels Stroke & Coat as Dinnerware Safe, meaning it is suitable for dinnerware. According to ACMI, the AP seal (Approved Product) means that the product is free of hazard labelling.
