Botz Unidekor 4011 Basaltgrau – glossy universal decorating colour for ceramics and porcelain
Botz Unidekor 4011 Basaltgrau is a liquid, opaque universal decorating colour in a glossy grey. You can use it as an underglaze, onglaze or in-glaze colour, and also for porcelain painting, majolica technique and relief technique. It is fired within the range 1000–1250 °C.
Before firing, the colour looks matt and less intense. Its full colour intensity only shows after firing. Unidekor colours can be mixed with one another, and mixing with 4009 Weiß gives pastel shades. Basaltgrau belongs to a series that, according to the Botz range, also includes 4012 Capriblau, 4013 Flieder and 4015 Farngrün.
Working with Unidekor
The method depends on the technique. The information comes from Botz:
- Underglaze: Botz recommends applying a thin coat of Botz 9106 over the Unidekor. You can also cover the dry colour with a clear glaze, using a soft brush.
- In-glaze ("glaze+paint"): apply the colour to the dry, unfired glaze. Matt Botz glazes such as 9108, 9107, 9487–9491 and 9612 are suitable. Firing follows the firing range of the base glaze. 9102 is not suitable for this.
- Airbrush: Unidekor can be sprayed undiluted.
- Marbling: slightly diluted, you can marble it on damp or fired clay or on bisque ware.
Colour effect and choice
Because the colour differs clearly before and after firing, it is worth making a test piece on your own clay or porcelain before painting a whole piece. With 4009 Weiß you lighten Basaltgrau to pastel shades, and by mixing it with other Unidekor colours you can create your own shades. According to Botz, non-hazardous (no labelling required) means lead-free and free of hazardous substances in concentrations requiring labelling.
