Natural Wooden Box for Painting, Engraving and Decorating

This wooden box is a hinged box made of untreated natural wood, which you can decorate however you like and then use for storage or as gift packaging. It measures 22 × 12 × 5.3 cm on the outside and 20.4 × 10.4 cm on the inside. It has room for jewellery, writing equipment, craft materials or odds and ends. A hinge holds the lid and base together.

As the wood is untreated, it takes paint, varnish and pyrography well, and you decide how the box looks in the end.

Decorating the wooden box

Lightly sand the surface with fine sandpaper before decorating and wipe off the dust, so that paint, decoupage glue or varnish go on more evenly. For acrylic paints, napkin technique and decoupage, apply the paint or glue first and seal with varnish at the end. For pyrography and engraving, it is best to work on the bare wood before you varnish or apply a wood stain. Paint the lid and base separately and let both dry completely before you close the box. That way the surfaces will not stick together.
