Retouching / Final Varnish

Intermediate and final varnish for oil painting. Retouching varnish or final varnish is a colourless, non-yellowing, quick-drying, glossy liquid. It does not dissolve freshly dried oil paints. Supplied ready to use for brush application as a final varnish; as a retouching varnish it should be diluted with 20% white spirit (50019). The dried varnish layer remains soluble in white spirit (50019). Thinner: white spirit (50019).

Application notes

• For use as a final varnish, but also for the temporary protection of oil paintings that are not yet finished; it also evens out "sunken-in" areas, i.e. matt patches with little binder.
• Shake before use.
• The product is supplied ready to use as a final varnish, but can be diluted if required with, for example, white spirit 50019; as a retouching varnish, it must be diluted with 20 % white spirit 50019!
• As a final varnish, apply quickly with a suitable varnish brush at room temperature, only to a completely dry painting surface – no sooner than 8 to 12 months; as an intermediate varnish, apply only to a well-dried painting surface – no sooner than 4 weeks.
• Clean tools immediately after use with white spirit 50019 or brush cleaner 50051 / 50052.
• The dried varnish layer remains soluble in white spirit 50019 or varnish remover 50060 for a long time.
• When used as an intermediate varnish, the dried product can be painted over with oil paints or reworked with a white spirit-based final varnish.
• The product is white spirit-based and cannot be mixed with alcohol-based varnishes (e.g. alcohol retouching varnish 50020).
• The usual thickness of the varnish layer has no significant effect on the UV resistance of the paint layer. We therefore strongly recommend working with high-quality, preferably lightfast oil paints from the outset.
• Close the container immediately after use.
• Store in a cool, dry place.
• Individual preliminary tests are recommended.
• Contains: acrylic resin, aldehyde resin, white spirit.

Danger: May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. May cause respiratory irritation. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Keep out of reach of children. Do not breathe vapours. IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTRE or doctor. IF SWALLOWED: Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting.
