Schmincke Citrus-Terpin – thinning and cleaning in oil painting

Schmincke Citrus-Terpin is a solvent blend for oil painting with a scent of lemon peel. You can use it to thin oil paints and oil auxiliaries and to clean brushes and palettes. One container therefore covers both painting and tidying up.

The solvent is not equally compatible with every mixture. Schmincke therefore recommends individual preliminary tests before you combine it with other auxiliaries. Because of the hazard labelling, please read the information below before first use.

Using Citrus-Terpin

For thinning, add only as much solvent to the oil paint as you need for the consistency. For later layers, it is better to use an oil-based painting medium, as too much solvent makes the paint layer lean and reduces adhesion. To clean, first wipe off excess paint with a rag or kitchen paper. Then rinse the brush or palette in a small container with a little Citrus-Terpin and wipe it dry.

Storage and disposal

Close the container immediately after each use and store it in a cool, dry place. Do not pour solvent residues down the drain. Because of the environmental labelling, they belong in hazardous waste collection. Do not leave rags with oil paint and solvent screwed up, as drying oils can heat up spontaneously. It is better to collect them in a closed metal container.
