Schmincke HORADAM watercolour tin, 12 half pans, black metal box

Schmincke HORADAM watercolour tin – 12 half pans in a metal box with mixing areas

The Schmincke HORADAM watercolour metal tin is a paint box for watercolour painting. It contains 12 half pans of HORADAM watercolour paints and suits beginners as well as anyone who has been painting in watercolour for some time. The box is a black metal tin with a ribbed design. The paints are mostly transparent and semi-transparent, so you build up colour effects in thin layers, one over another.

The paints are bound with gum arabic. Dried-on residues on the palette can therefore be re-wetted with water and used again. This makes the box economical to use, whether at the desk, in the studio or on the go.

Working with the tin

Moisten the pan with a wet brush and wait briefly until the paint dissolves. On the mixing areas in the box you blend shades from several pans before applying them to the paper. Because the paints are transparent, you increase the intensity with further layers. Let each layer dry first, otherwise the colours run into each other and quickly turn muddy. Watercolour paper absorbs water better than ordinary drawing paper and cockles less.

Choice and expansion

Half pans take up less space than whole pans, so more colours fit into a compact box. With 12 colours you have the basics covered. If you would like more choice, you can add 12 more half pans in the box. Before buying more, check the colour numbers against the list in the product details so that you do not buy any colour twice.
