Botz liquid glaze 9509 Polarnacht gives earthenware a deep, opaque black with vivid blue effects. The glaze is glossy and ready to use. Stir it, brush it on and fire it in the earthenware range.

Polarnacht covers so well that it looks intense even on red and black clay, so the colour of the clay barely shows through. A test tile made from your own clay will show how strong the blue effects turn out.

Application

The glaze is intended for bisque-fired ceramics; the bisque firing should be at 950 °C or above.

• Stir the glaze well and thin it with a little water if needed
• Apply with a brush to the bisque-fired ceramic
• Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
• Fire in the range 1020–1060 °C; firing up to 1100 °C is possible

Uses for Polarnacht

The opaque black with blue effects suits bowls, mugs, decorative objects or figures where the glaze is meant to be the main colour. If you want more colour in the clay, you can combine Polarnacht with other Botz liquid glazes from the series, for example on rims or details. Test the combination on a test tile first.
