Botz 9523 Pinienwald liquid glaze – satin mid green for earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9523 Pinienwald is a ready-to-use earthenware glaze in a soft mid green with slightly cloudy effects. It has a satin finish and is opaque: you apply it to bisque-fired ceramics and fire it in the range of 1020 °C to 1100 °C. The bottle contains 200 ml.
Satin means a softly shimmering surface that reflects less than a high-gloss glaze. The cloudy effects give the green depth without making it look busy. If you prefer something stronger, the series also includes Botz 9524 Grüne Allee, a petrol green with similar cloudy effects. Efeu 9507 is a darker green with black and white blooms.
Glazing with Pinienwald
The glaze is ready to use and is applied to ceramics that have already been bisque-fired. The bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C or higher.
- Stir the glaze well before use and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush
- Let each coat dry thoroughly and repeat if needed
- Wipe the foot clean before firing so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf
Firing and results
Pinienwald is stable in the range of 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. As a guide for Botz liquid glazes, fire at around 1050 °C with a hold time of 10–20 minutes: the surface then usually fires to a smoother finish. Because effects vary with the clay, the thickness of application and the kiln, it is worth making a test tile in your own clay. Apply several thin coats rather than one thick one for an even, opaque colour.
